GENERAL MURAL FAQs

we’ve got the answers

What does Street Art Concepts do?

treet Art Concepts is a street art and mural consultancy led by Brisbane artist Dan Krause (Drule Art).

We create murals, commissioned artwork, custom creative projects and workshops for commercial, public and residential clients. We can also help with creative direction and connect clients with artists from our wider network when a project calls for a different style or specialist skill.

What areas do you service?

We're based in Brisbane and work on projects throughout Australia.

Whether you're around the corner or interstate, send us the details and we'll let you know what's possible.

How much does a mural cost?

There isn't a standard mural price because no two projects are quite the same.

Cost can be influenced by the size of the artwork, design complexity, surface condition, access, preparation, materials and project location.

The best starting point is to send us a photo of the space, approximate dimensions and your location.

Do I need to have a design ready?

Definitely not.

You can come to us with a detailed brief, a few reference images, a rough idea or absolutely no idea what should go on the wall.

Part of what we do is help turn those initial thoughts into a creative direction that works for the space.

Can I choose the style of the mural?

Yes. We'll talk about the styles, colours and subject matter you're drawn to as part of developing the concept.

Dan works across a range of creative directions, and Street Art Concepts also has connections with other artists when a project requires a particular look or specialist approach.

What if Drule Art isn't the right artist for our project?

That's one of the reasons Street Art Concepts exists.

With more than 20 years in the industry, Dan has developed relationships with artists and creatives working across different styles.

If another artist is better suited to the brief, we may be able to connect you with the right person or bring additional artists into the project.

It's about finding the right creative solution, not forcing every project into one style.

Can you work from our existing brand or creative brief?

Absolutely.

For commercial and public projects, we can work with existing brand guidelines, architectural concepts, campaign ideas, project briefs and creative direction.

The challenge is turning those requirements into artwork that still feels original.

Can you work with councils, architects, designers and agencies?

Yes.

Street Art Concepts can work directly with clients or collaborate with councils, architects, landscape architects, interior designers, developers, builders, marketing teams and creative agencies as part of a larger project.

Can we see the design before you start painting?

Depending on the project, concepts and digital mock-ups can be developed to help establish the composition, colours, scale and placement before installation begins.

The approval process will be discussed as part of your project.

How long does a mural take?

It depends on the project.

Size, complexity, preparation, access and weather can all affect installation time. Once we understand the artwork and site requirements, we can give you a much clearer idea of the expected timeframe.

What surfaces can you paint?

Murals can potentially be created across a wide variety of interior and exterior surfaces, including rendered walls, concrete, brick, masonry and other appropriately prepared surfaces.

We also work on more unconventional canvases, including vehicles, sheds, water tanks and custom items.

Send us a photo if you're unsure — we'll take a look.

Do you prepare the wall before painting?

The condition of the surface is an important part of any mural project.

We'll assess what preparation is required before painting and discuss any work that needs to happen before installation begins.

How long will a mural last?

That depends on whether it's indoors or outdoors, the surface, environmental exposure, materials and ongoing condition of the wall.

For exterior projects, appropriate materials and protective finishes can be considered to help maximise the artwork's longevity.

Can you copy an artwork or image I've found online?

Reference images are a great way to show us the direction you like, but we don't want to simply reproduce another artist's work.

Instead, we'll use your references and ideas as inspiration to develop something original for your project.

Do you run street art workshops?

Yes. Workshops can be developed for schools, community groups, organisations and events, with the format tailored to the participants and objectives of the project.

Talk to us about your group, location and what you'd like to achieve.

Do you only paint large murals?

Not at all.

We love a massive wall, but Street Art Concepts takes on projects at many different scales — from commissioned artwork and smaller feature pieces through to large commercial and public installations.

What do you need from me to get started?

Keep it simple.

Send us:

  • A few photos of the space or surface
  • Approximate dimensions
  • Your suburb, city or project location
  • Any ideas or inspiration you already have
  • A little about what you'd like the artwork to achieve
  • Any important dates or project timeframes

Don't worry if you don't have all the answers yet.

That's what the first conversation is for.
